Stay Safe
God in his own wisdom created human beings to have dominion over all things on earth. He made out of us, families both immediate and distant. He made our blood the same so that it can readily be donated to the next person who may need it. We, therefore, became and will always remain medicines for each other. Similarly, if everyone protects themselves against sicknesses and diseases, we become preservatives for each other. On the other hand, if we do not take care of ourselves, we run the risk of becoming potential contaminants for each other.
COVID-19
Covid-19 stands for Corona Virus Infectious disease 2019. The disease is as a result of infection by the coronavirus SARS-COV-2. COVID-19 causes symptoms that are similar to those of other respiratory conditions such as allergies and the flu. Not everyone who has contracted COVID-19 will have symptoms. If they do, symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. The symptoms include
- Congestion/Running nose.
- Shortness of breath.
- Sore throat.
- Muscle & Body Ache.
- Dry Cough.
HOW IT SPREADS
Person to Person.
Covid-19 spreads through small water droplets that a person with the virus produces when they sneeze, cough or talk. When another person inhales this droplet, the virus gets the opportunity to enter in the body of that person.
Surface/Object to Person
The same droplets may land on surfaces and objects. When one touches such a surface or object and then touches his mouth, eyes or nose before washing the hands, chances are that virus will end up in the body and cause the disease.
HOW TO PREVENT SPREAD OF THE VIRUS
The ministries of Health all over the world have come up with various measures/health protocols to help stop the spread of the virus. The measures are standard such that it does not matter where you are, the practice remains the same.
Covid-19 Health protocols/guidelines
We have always lived with health protocols such that the covid-19 protocols are just an addition to what we have done in the past with good success and must continue to do.
For example, buying a mosquito net and sleeping under it is a protective cover against mosquitoes that cause MALARIA.
Observing covid-19 protocols is therefore a health responsibility not any different and must be seen as a necessary addition and enhanced awareness to the various protocols we have observed in the past and will continue to observe going forward.
It promotes family values to know that each member is religious towards the protocols. Remember, when the family adheres strictly to the protocols, the whole nation remains safe.
It is like every family taking an insurance cover against covid for the nation.
This is a premium worth paying for your safety, safety of your loved ones and of the nation.
Protocols/guidelines
- Personal Hygiene. –
(i). WASH hands thoroughly and regularly (Every 15 minutes if possible).
The act of washing hands involves the use of water and soap for the sole purpose to lower the levels of germs (bacteria, virus) on your hands to low enough levels when they can no longer be harmful or within safe limits.
W– Water is the medium for cleaning
A – Antiseptic is to stop or slow down the growth of germs on the skin
S – Soap is used as a cleaning agent with water.
H – Hygiene (maintaining health and preventing disease) is the net effect of properly using water, antiseptics and soap for personal care or cleaning.
(ii). Avoid touching nose, eyes and mouth with unwashed hands. The best way to do this is to;
(iii). ALWAYS wear a MASK to cover your mouth and nose. Even though your eyes remain UNMASKED, please take care not to touch them with dirty hands. Wearing a mask prevents water droplets from reaching the atmosphere and inhaled by another person or drop on surfaces of objects and cause contamination.
(iv). Sanitize. We can define sanitization to mean the use of chemicals most preferably preparations containing at least 60% alcohol to kill germs (bacteria, virus) on the hands and surfaces of objects to reduce them to low and harmless levels.
- Social/Physical distancing
Social or physical distancing is a measure aimed at ensuring that a reasonable distance is maintained between you and the next person. Keeping a 1.5m distance has been found to be safe. When we sneeze, we release large amounts of water droplets with energy enough to travel the atmosphere up to 1.5meters beyond which the energy is lost and the droplets land on the nearest surface and/or object.
Keeping a safe distance, therefore, is important to protect us against person to person spread of the Covid-19 virus. This is true even if you are wearing a mask.
Natural defence against Covid-19 virus
Our ability to fight the virus depends on the state of health of our immune system; the first line of defence against an attack by a foreign body such as the covid 19 virus or any other organism on our skin. This is why it is important to maintain good levels of personal hygiene to protect against common diseases.
Immune System.
However, once attacked, our immune system is immediately called into play to fight the attacker. Depending on how healthy your immune system is, you can win the fight or the body may not be strong enough and must therefore rely on external support to overcome the situation.
How to maintain our immune system in a healthy state.
- Nutrition.
Like any other cell of the body, our immune system is composed of various specialized cells that help fight disease. They require proper nutrients to help maintain their health in order for them to carry out their functions. Good nutrition, therefore, is important as the source of the nutrients.
- Immune boosters.
Vitamin D
Almost every cell in the body has a receptor for Vitamin D. It is essential to many processes including;
- Immune System function
- Bone Health
- Protection against cancer.
There are two forms of Vitamin D
D2- Ergocalciferol found in Mushrooms
D3 Cholecalciferol (found in oily fish. Fish Liver Oil and Egg Yolk.) This is the more powerful raising the Vitamin D level by twice as much.
VITA HEALTH Cod Liver Oil and Covid-19
Vita Health Cod Liver Oil, a rich source of Vitamin D3, the more powerful of the D Vitamins is a potent immune booster. Vitamin D enhances the fighting ability of fighter white blood cells critical in our immune defence mechanism.
The average daily intake of vitamin D is between 400iu-800iu. Vita Health Cod Liver oil contains 800iu per every 10ml of the liquid. This taken every day, is a sufficient maintenance dose for a non-deficient person.
